In In the Middle Are the Horsemen, Tik Maynard recounts his transformative journey from a young man at a crossroads to a dedicated equestrian. After suffering a career-ending injury and a painful breakup, Maynard, the son of prominent Canadian equestrians, decides to become a "working student" in the horse industry, trading labor for hands-on experience and mentorship. What began as a one-year adventure turns into a three-year odyssey as Maynard trains under the guidance of world-renowned horse trainers and Olympians, including Anne Kursinski, Johann Hinnemann, and Ian Millar. Through setbacks, personal growth, and moments of triumph, Maynard reflects on the intense, often challenging world of horse training, and how it deepens his understanding of both horses and human nature. His story is one of self-discovery, where his love for horses and commitment to the craft ultimately help him find clarity and purpose in his life.
