The equestrian world has seen a massive shift toward safety technology, and airbag vests are leading the charge. But investing in an airbag can be overwhelming. How fast does it inflate? The Technology: 98 Milliseconds That Matter
When you fall, every fraction of a second counts. The Freejump Airbag Vest boasts a deployment speed of just 98 milliseconds. To put that in perspective, the blink of an eye takes about 100 to 400 milliseconds.
Upon deployment, the vest provides rigid protection for the:
-
Cervical Spine & Neck: Minimizing hyper-extension.
-
Thorax & Pelvis: Shielding vital organs and the hips.
-
Back & Spine: Absorbing impact before you hit the ground.
Choosing Your Model: Adult vs. Junior vs. X'Air Safe
Choosing the right vest comes down to the rider's weight, age, and discipline:

-
Freejump Adult Airbag Vest: The gold standard for daily training and show ring safety. Safety Requirement: The rider must weigh at least 77 lbs (35 kg) to ensure proper deployment tension.
-
Freejump Junior Airbag Vest: Engineered specifically for growing bodies. The deployment triggers at a lower weight threshold. Safety Requirement: Designed for riders weighing at least 55 lbs (25 kg).

-
Freejump X'Air Safe Vest: The ultimate choice for cross-country riders and eventers. This combines a traditional Level 3 body protector with the explosive airbag system, giving you constant foam protection plus the heavy-duty defense of an airbag.

What Happens After a Fall? How to Replace the Canister
One of the most common questions we get at Olson's is: "If my airbag goes off, do I need to replace it?" The answer is no! The Freejump Airbag is fully reusable, provided the vest itself wasn't structurally damaged in the fall. You can easily reset the system yourself at the trailer or in the tack room by following these steps:
⚠️ Olson's Safety Tip: Always carry at least one spare cartridge in your trunk or tack trunk. There is nothing worse than having an unexpected "unscheduled dismount" at a show and having to sit out the next class because you don't have a backup canister!
Caring for Your Freejump Airbag: Cleaning & Storage
Because this is high-tech safety gear, you cannot simply toss your airbag vest into the washing machine or take it to the dry cleaners. High heat and harsh detergents can compromise the internal bladder. All you need is a microfiber cloth & this approved cleaner.

💡 Don't Forget the Cartridge! > Your airbag requires a CO2 canister to function. A cartridge can only be used once and must be replaced after every deployment.
- Junior Vests require the 50cc Cartridge
- Adult Vests (Sizes S–XXL) require the 60cc Cartridges
