- Your helmet is perhaps your most essential piece of riding equipment, so we highly recommend choosing wisely. Making sure that you're comfortable and protected in the saddle is of utmost importance, and for the sake of safety, proper fit is paramount.
- A properly fitted helmet will sit level across the head. There should be approximately one finger's width between your brow and the brim. The helmet should not come down past the ears, and the rider should be able to shake her head up and down, side to side without the helmet moving, with or without the harness attached. Some helmets that have more padding will tend to break in quite a bit, so sometimes they may feel uncomfortably tight until they begin to conform to the head. We recommend wearing the helmet at home for about one hour before taking it to the barn to make sure it's a good fit.
- Adjustable helmets have grown in popularity in recent years. Although they can be adjusted to fit a wider range of the riders, they may not be suitable for everyone. Making sure that they fit as well as a non-adjustable helmet is crucial to ensuring a proper, safe fit.
- Your helmet is designed to withstand one impact only. Should you have a fall and hit your head, you should replace your helmet immediately. Many of the helmets we carry come with replacement policies, that allow you to purchase a new helmet at reduced cost. Please contact the store for details.
